Ex-SBS, that put him far above any other MP. He did seem to spout shit in later years, though.

A short illness ? Anyone know? Cancer? Drinker?
Seemed a decent bloke but his politics were far too forgiving and dare I say “romantic “

I can't say I agreed with much anything he said politics wise, but as far as politicians go he came across as a decent likeable chap, RIP Paddy.

Shame, he was the only politician I ever had any faith in. Until he did a U turn and supported the war in Iraq

It's faint praise, but compared to the shower of self-serving cunts we have now, on all sides, at least he seemed honest and not in it for the coin, or, just as bad, the fucking headlines. And I generally fucking hate all politicians.

He was a true politician in every sense of the word and got to the heart of everyone he met if hot the mind, including my brother who's shop he entered over 25 years ago, now my brother does not give a shit about politics and has never ever voted in his life but he beamed "guess who came into the shop today?" Paddy Ashdown, and he never forgot that and would smile and recount that moment in time when Paddy was asking him for a vote in his cafe.
The man was a great Diplomat and worked doggedly to create a sustainable peace in Bosnia may he rest in peace. A soldier who hated war, who had a thoughtful easing intelligent character, not many like him left in politics.

From his obit'
'There was a sexual relationship with a female maths teacher which he described in his memoir, A Fortunate Life, as "a rite of passage".'
Top man
Agree with little of his politics but loved hsi conviction, it is that which is so missing today

Was known as "Paddy Pantsdown" as didn't he have a kid with his secretary? and a few other rumoured flings....
Wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes as an MP let alone leader in today's PC dominated world.
RIP Paddy
